Education that changes what is possible
TCF's impact begins with access to education, but it does not end at the school gate. We look at whether children are learning, whether education continues to create opportunities after school, whether young people are able to build more secure lives, whether attitudes within families and communities are changing, and whether what we learn can strengthen education beyond TCF.
Creating More Ways to Learn
For nearly three decades, TCF has worked to bring learning closer to the people who have had the least access to it. Today that reaches beyond formal schooling into adult literacy, accelerated learning and vocational pathways.
Getting In Is the Start Not the Finish
Getting a child into school is only the beginning. We track whether students are building strong academic foundations and developing the knowledge, skills and confidence they need for what comes next.
A curriculum built around how children actually learn, taught by teachers who keep training throughout their careers, and assessed so we know whether it worked.

Children Who Were Out of Reach Are Reading
In Grade 3, TCF students read Urdu at four times the rate of children in public schools. These are foundational skills, measured early, while a gap is still small enough to close.

Widening What We Count as Learning
Our definition of learning is also growing. Under Learning for Life, we look beyond academic attainment to socio emotional learning, functional English, digital and financial literacy, life readiness, employability, values and behaviours.
Ultimately, we want every student to become an Agent of Positive Change a lifelong learner, personally and financially capable, who leans towards goodness and positive action.
What happens after school matters
A matriculation certificate is not the end of the journey. We follow whether education continues to open doors for our graduates through intermediate education, university, skills and other pathways.

96% of those who reach tertiary education go on to complete it. The challenge is not finishing, it is getting there.
Helping More Students Reach What Comes Next
The major challenge therefore lies in helping more students reach tertiary education and other positive pathways after school. This is the focus of Bridge to Success, through stronger intermediate pathways, scholarships, tertiary support, counselling and skills opportunities.

Women See the Largest Difference
Alumni who received TCF tertiary support report higher employment and higher income than their peers. On both measures the difference is larger among women.

These comparisons show an association between tertiary support and stronger employment and income outcomes. They should not be interpreted as evidence that TCF support alone caused the difference.
Change that travels beyond one child
Some of education's deepest effects are visible in the choices families make over time. Recent qualitative research supported by the Gates Foundation points to changing attitudes towards girls' education and women's work.
Learning Reaches Where Schools Can't
Not every learner can reach a TCF school, so TCF’s other programmes reach them instead: adult literacy for women and children in communities without one nearby, and vocational training that opens a path to earning.
Access is the foundation of impact. As TCF grows, the question is increasingly whether those with the greatest need can reach learning, stay engaged, and continue their journey.

Barriers remain
The research also shows that barriers remain. Safety, distance, marriage expectations, family reputation and ideas about acceptable work continue to influence the choices available to girls and women.
Boys face a different pressure, with economic expectations pushing some towards work and away from education.
Someone Decided to Act
The barriers are real and they are not the end of the story. Each figure on this page exists because a child got a place, a teacher got trained, or a graduate found the next step. That work continues, and it is funded by people who choose to back it.
