TCF Primary Schools Are Changing

We're introducing play, stories, and reflection to help our kids build 21st-century skills.

TCF Primary Schools Are Changing
Why We're Re-Imagining Education

Some skills a textbook can't teach

Traditional classrooms teach children to recite, not understand. At TCF, we’ve built a curriculum that helps children grasp the ideas behind their textbooks, alongside skills no textbook can teach: collaboration, self-regulation, and wellbeing. With 65% of today’s kindergartners headed for jobs that don’t exist yet, those are the skills built to last.

Where It Started

A future we cannot even imagine yet

In 2017, a team led by graduates of Vanderbilt and Harvard re-imagined our early years curriculum at a Karachi school: activity based learning, play, and nearly 150 original Urdu storybooks. Research shows these years build the cognitive and social skills that carry children forward, and the model, low cost and built for a low income community, is designed to scale.

Built around how children actually learn

From how children sit to how they play, every detail of a TCF classroom has been rebuilt around the way young children actually learn.

Looking Ahead

Preparing children for whatever comes next

As this programme scales, our design lab keeps refining what we teach and how we teach it. We don’t know exactly what the future holds, but if we can raise children who are capable, motivated, and well rounded, we believe that’s enough to prepare them for it, however uncertain it may be.

It is estimated that 65% of the children entering kindergarten today will ultimately end up in new jobs that don’t even exist today. As educators, how do we prepare the children for a future we can’t even imagine yet?

We felt that the answer has to be in building some of the critical skills that will allow children to learn and thrive no matter what the future holds for them – creativity, confidence, critical thinking and cognitive skills, … a sense of community, and the ability to be mindful and resilient.

The early years are critical for the development of these skills – millions of neural connections are being formed every minute and we start seeing variations in the development of language skills as early as 18 months depending upon the child’s immediate environment.

So, in 2017, we put together a team of bright, young, passionate educators and gave them a brand-new school to reimagine and use as a lab to develop these multiple intelligences among their youngest students.
